Philippine Archbishop Bernardito Auza, papal nuncio to the United Nations in New York, and Consul General Claro Cristobal formally opened the art exhibit, “Dahon ng Lahi (Leaves of Heritage),” at the Philippine Consulate in New York City, USA.
The exhibit by noted visual artist Fernando “Pando” Manipon features his paintings using a unique medium—“leaf mosaic collage.”
Manipon depicted ancient Catholic churches and Filipino spiritual and cultural themes made from collected dried leaves unleashed by typhoons “Ondoy” and “Yolanda.”
Fr. Erno Diaz, chair of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Global Ministry of New York, praised the exhibit.
“The event was another proud moment of Filipino artistry as we continue our mission of caring for our overseas Filipino workers and migrants,” he said. —CONTRIBUTED
