For the second year in a row, the Medicard Sprint Triathlon attracted hundreds of participants—both veteran triathletes and newbies alike—who swam, biked and ran to complete the tough-but-enjoyable racecourse.
The triathlon was held at Fontana Leisure Park in Clark, Pampanga, early November. It was a sunny day, with a cool breeze for good measure. Suffice it to say, it was the perfect condition to complete a race of this caliber.
The #MediCardSprintTri is a beginner-friendly triathlon which consists of a 600-meter swim, 20-km bike, and 5-km run. There’s also a relay category which splits the swim, bike and run portions of the race among friends and family.
Last year’s racecourse was perfect for veteran triathletes in their off-season looking to sweat it out or for newbies training for their A-races. This year’s course is no different.
“The MediCard Sprint Tri is our way of continuously encouraging everyone to adopt a healthier lifestyle. We want to show Filipinos that keeping fit can be fun and exciting,” said MediCard president Nicky Montoya, who also participated in the triathlon.
MediCard is the country’s leading health maintenance organization (HMO), dedicated to building a culture of health awareness and behavior. MediCard’s extensive connections with outpatient clinics, partners, and affiliate doctors nationwide allow it to offer an array of total healthcare services.
Montoya said they look forward to hosting this family-and-beginner-friendly triathlon—the first of its kind in the country that was spearheaded by a HMO.
“It’s always nice to see a healthy turn out of participants in these kinds of events—from all walks of life. As an HMO, we’ll continue to find creative ways to encourage people to move, exercise, and sweat it out in a fun way,” he said.
Organized by Bike King, the triathlon takes participants through several laps in the Olympic-size pool of the Fontana water park to a single-loop bike course around the Clark grounds, ending in a one-loop run on the rolling paths of the resort.
The event was supported by official timekeeper Garmin, Standard Insurance, and recovery partner Air Relax. Other sponsors include Klean Athlete, Smart, Pocari Sweat, sip purified water, and partner hotels The Villages at Global Clark, Fontana and Royce Hotel & Casino.
Finishers took home a beautifully designed medal, while podium finishers bagged trophies and gift items for the different age-group categories, Team Competition, and relay category.
