See how an act of kindness empowers Taal residents amidst disaster

In a tropical country like the Philippines, the disasters Filipinos are usually more prepared for involving torrential rainfall, flooding, and typhoons because of the frequency of its occurrence. Although the Philippines is home to some of the most fascinating volcanic wonders, knowledge and preparedness of such related disasters is not as commonplace.

Many communities and citizens were thrown off-guard with the eruption of Taal last January 13, managed to flee from the area in time however leaving not only their homes but also their livelihoods behind. Thankfully, the sambayanihan spirit of the Filipino people saw many communities and companies quickly mobilized to aid in the relief efforts.

Avon, being a long-standing brand loved by many Filipinos in the beauty and personal care landscape, without hesitation, moved quickly to participate in active disaster relief efforts to aid the victims of the recent eruption.

Over 3,000 families benefited from Avon’s relief support, some of whom are affected Avon Representatives. Each family received hygiene packs consisting of underwear for both men & women, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, feminine wash, and baby care products. Avon’s employees have also come together to make a cash donation which has been utilized to purchase additional towels for the victims of the calamity and their families. 1,000 of these families are those of Avon Representatives that have also been deeply affected by the crisis.

In their commitment to the empowerment and overall well-being of its community, Avon has sent hygiene packs to them through Avon branches in Lipa, Tanuan, Balayan, Nasugbu, Batanga, and Bauan. While 2,000 of the hygiene packs and another 2,000 more underwear donations have been coursed through Red Cross Philippines by Avon to reach over 47 evacuation centers in the Balayan and San Luis areas.

The call to respond to a disaster is almost second nature for humans, but the challenge is in listening to what the situation needs and calls for. For 130 years, the heart of the most well-known direct-to-consumer beauty brand in the world has been its strong support for advocacies like women empowerment through financial opportunities, aiding the fight against gender-based violence, and raising awareness for breast cancer.

Their efforts over the years have totaled to having donated over 1 billion dollars in support of these causes. Consistently responding to the community crisis is unique and almost first instinct to Avon’s largest market in the Asia Pacific region, Avon Philippines. While other calamities have an end, the impending danger of an active volcano continues to worry locals, leaving this story open-ended.

With 192 branches nationwide, Avon Philippines stays prepared for possible courses of action in support of its Avon Representatives, their families, and affected communities, especially now that it is part of the fourth-largest pure-play beauty company in the world, Natura &Co where, together, they embark to become the best beauty group FOR the world.
