Australian Ambassador Steven Robinson AO and his wife Rhonda hosted what proved to be the largest Australian National Day celebration yet in Manila, with nearly 900 government, business and social leaders joining the Australia Day celebration at the Makati Shangri-La. The evening showcased the best of Australian wine, cheese and coffee. Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. delivered a warm toast to Australia, expressing solidarity and hope in the face of natural disasters. He also added that the defense cooperation between the two countries should be a model for other alliances.
Ambassador Robinson, in his remarks, highlighted the resilience of both Australians and Filipinos when faced with challenges, and thanked the Philippine government and Filipino people who had offered support amid the bush fires.
Ambassador Robinson said that for those who had asked what they could do directly to help, the answer was simple: Please consider Australia for your next vacation.
