True to its mission of providing reimagined experiences to its customers, Smart Signature partnered with ALT Philippines 2020 in bringing together 10 galleries showcasing the works of more than 150 contemporary artists—the first of its kind in the country.
Held last February 13 to 16 at the SMX Convention Center of SM Aura Premier, ALT Philippines 2020 is a collaborative project that sought to reframe how art shows are made. The participating galleries are a mix of the most visionary and dynamic in the local art scene—ArtInformal, Blanc, Finale Art File, Galleria Duemila, MO_Space, The Drawing Room, Underground, Vinyl on Vinyl, West Gallery, and 1335 Mabini.
Exploring a distinctive format, the art show was able to create an intimate and immersive gathering that allowed meaningful engagement with visitors and rigorous discussions with industry experts. The project aimed to contribute to the growth and sustainability of Philippine art.
Smart Signature subscribers were treated to free passes and discounts during the exclusive four-day event, experiencing first-hand the diverse spectrum of contemporary art forms as visualized by established and emerging artists alike.
“We want our subscribers to live the life they want and pursue their own passions. We want to support that and make sure that reimagined experiences are possible through our services,” says Smart Communications President Alfred Panlilio.
Among the major highlights of the event is the digital art wall of prolific artist Derek Tumala titled “Pure Impermanence,” staged in collaboration with Smart as the coming together of art and technology. The 10-channel video in portrait orientation artwork makes use of moving and non-moving images assembled using hundreds of other images, colors, and patterns, both imagined and real.
“We are all about combining technology and art. Not only that, we can also use technology to push the arts,” Panlilio explains. “Similar to our brand, we can reimagine how art is developed, and this could be Smart’s contribution to the Philippine contemporary art scene.”
