These ‘Drag Race’ queens are going to werq Manila

If you’re as obsessed with “RuPaul’s Drag Race” as we are, here’s your chance to see some of the show’s most memorable queens perform live.

We the Pvblic presents Werq the World 2020 tour at Smart Araneta Coliseum on Feb. 29. You can still get your tickets from Ticketnet.com.ph.

“We The Pvblic stands for diversity. Our differences inform the subjects we cover. We take pride in creating an inclusive culture that does not discriminate based on age, religion, sexual orientation and gender expression. As we push the boundaries of content creation, what better way to showcase diversity than have the biggest drag phenomenon here in Manila. It is more than just a show, it captures the zeitgeist of our times,” said Josser Quilendrino, publisher of We The Pvblic.

Here are the queens who will be coming to werq Manila.

Aquaria

“Drag Race” herstory: Winner of Season 10

Known for: Being a fashion queen and one of the youngest winners of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” During her season, Aquaria was never in the bottom two and she won both the ball challenge and Snatch Game where she impersonated Melania Trump.

Memorable quote: “My name is Aquaria and I’m a superstar.”

Post-”Drag Race” life: Aquaria has been rocking the fashion scene, slaying runways and booking campaigns and bagging magazine covers. She has modeled for Moschino, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Beauty and H&M, has released a collaboration with NYX Cosmetics and was part of the MAC Viva Glam campaign last year. She and Violet Chachki were the first drag queens to walk the Met Gala red carpet in 2019.

Why we love her: We’ve seen Aquaria in the flesh twice—first at DragCon LA and then when she went to Manila for The SM Store. This fashion queen is always flawless and friendly. We stan her, we stan her hard.

Violet Chachki

“Drag Race” herstory: Winner of Season 7

Known for: That tiny, tiny waist, her love of and flair for fashion, and being a burlesque beauty (Dita Von Teese approves!)

Memorable quote: “I’m numb from the waist down.”

Post-”Drag Race” life: Violet walked the Met Gala red carpet in 2019 along with Aquaria. She modeled Bettie Page Lingerie for the UK brand Playful Promises and Moschino and has hit the runways of London and Milan Fashion Week. Violet is a burlesque performer and has performed with Dita Von Teese’s The Art of Teese.

Why we love her: She had us at that glorious tartan reveal in the first episode of her season. “Being able to serve two looks in one is a talent,” she said. We agree, Violet, we agree.

Detox

“Drag Race” herstory: Season 5 and “All Stars” Season 2

Known for: Her killer runway looks (remember when she painted her whole body a sexy silver?), being part of the Ro-Laska-Tox alliance, her sass and that glorious butt

Memorable quote: “I’ve had it.”

Post-”Drag Race” life: She formed the group DWV with Willam Belli and Vicky Vox, releasing hilarious parodies like “Boy is a Bottom” and “Chow Down.” Detox has appeared in two Rihanna music videos and the film “Cherry Pop.” She also recently appeared in a music video of Lizzo’s “Juice” with other “RuPaul’s Drag Race” queens.

Why we love her: That black and white look she wore in the finale of Season 5 will make us a Detox fan forever. Plus her lip syncs are always fun to watch (she blew us away when we watched DWV live) and we will never forget her performance in “Read U Wrote U” which to us will always be one of the best songs to come out of “Drag Race.” D to the E to the T to the O to the—hold it—X!

Kim Chi

“Drag Race” herstory: Season 8

Known for: Her anime fantasy looks and for being the first Korean contestant on the show

Memorable quote: “Donut come for me because I’ll destroy you.”

Post-”Drag Race” life: Kim Chi has collaborated with Sugarpill Cosmetics, has had a Christmas campaign with Lush (along with Detox and Shea Coulee) and has released her own emojis. Last year, she launched her own cosmetics line KimChi Chic (we need to get our hands on it). She and Miz Cracker made history as the first drag queens to star in a Super Bowl commercial. (It was an ad for Sabra hummus.)

Why we love her: We are Kim Chi fans through and through. We love her creativity and fashion, we love her love for food, we love her wit, we even love that adorable lisp.

Sharon Needles

“Drag Race” herstory: Winner of Season 4

Known for: Her spooktacular looks and for being the first “Drag Race” contestant to win four challenges in one season

Memorable quote: “When in doubt, freak ’em out.”

Post-”Drag Race” life: Sharon released three albums: “PG-13,” “Taxidermy” and “Battle Axe.” She became a spokesperson for Peta, a horror host on Logo and performed in a limited run of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” in Texas. Pittsburgh, where she’s from, declared June 12, 2012, as Sharon Needles Day. Aquaria is her drag daughter.

Why we love her: We love Sharon’s unique drag aesthetic—we bow down to this gothic glam queen.

Monét X
Change

“Drag Race” herstory: Season 10 Miss Congeniality and “All Stars” Season 4 cowinner

Known for: Sharing the “All Stars” Season 4 crown with Trinity the Tuck, being a lip sync assassin, that sponge dress and her Maya Angelou impersonation

Memorable quote: “I’m Monét X Change and you better get your currency in check, b*tch.”

Post-”Drag Race” life: Monét hosts her talk show The X Change Rate and cohosts the podcast “Sibling Rivalry” with Bob the Drag Queen. Monét was in a Pepsi commercial with Cardi B (okcuuuur). Her one-woman show toured Europe and the United States. She was one of the inspirations for Marvel’s first drag queen superhero Shade. She released the EP “Unapologetically” last year. She will be part of “RuPaul’s Celebrity Drag Race” (can’t wait for this!).

Why we love her: The death drop fake-out during her lip sync with Dusty Ray Bottoms and that adorable video of her and Monique Heart painting that we can’t stop watching (“Who said?” “Jesus.”)

Plastique Tiara

“Drag Race” herstory: Season 11

Known for: Her beauty—oh lord, that beauty

Memorable quote: “I found out about Beyonce, legit four years ago.”

Post-”Drag Race” life: She came out with a single called “Irresistible,” has been touring and winning hearts on social media. Her TikTok vids are a win.

Why we love her: Plastique is absolutely gorgeous in and out of drag. We saw her up close at DragCon LA and it’s like she was born with filters. She’s just flawless. And super sweet. (We became even bigger fans when she didn’t take the bait when A’Keria Davenport and Ra’Jah O’Hara were trying to get a rise out of her in Episode 3).
