When it comes to choosing the right clothes for a petite frame, the magic word is “Illusion.” You have to trick the eye that you have more height than what you have.
Always choose cuts that elongate the body. You also need to learn how to pair certain pieces with each other to create the longer-looking limbs. Observe where hems fall: You can’t get away with an inch too long or even too short. Sometimes, it also doesn’t hurt to play along with your height, but you have to avoid looking stubby.
Lately, I created a three-step formula to look like I’ve gained a few inches with these on-trend items.
#1 Levi’s Ribcage Jean
The name of these pants illustrates where they will begin on your body, making your legs look longer. The Ribcage Jean comes in seven different washes so you can choose a shade that flatters your skin tone (a must for the petite lady!) It’s also in a straight leg cut and made of 99 percent cotton, so it fits comfortably. Best of all: It has five pockets! Available at SM North EDSA and online.
#2 Zara Floral Crop Top
Now that you’ve achieved long legs with the right pair of jeans, complement it with a crop top. With the pants in step #1, you’ll be showing off the right amount of skin to off-set your short torso. Available at Greenbelt 5 and online.
#3 Melissa Papete Platform Rider Sandals
I may be guilty of being on a Melissa kick lately. (See my last story featuring the Color Pop Flats) I purchased this pair as it carries a cute color scheme and playful style. As a small woman, I like how these platforms give you that lift off the ground without the pain you get from wearing heels. An easy way to look taller the whole day. Available at SM Mega Fashion Hall.
