Ambassador Jaideep Mazumdar and Parvati C. Mazumdar hosted a well-attended reception during the 71st Republic Day of India at the Makati Shangri-La.
The evening began with the classical Indian dance “Bharat Natyam” performed by two young and accomplished Indian dancers. Children dressed in Filipino and Indian attire sang the national anthems of the two countries.
The ladies turned out in silk saris of vibrant colors. The evening was an occasion to celebrate the great commonalities between India and the Philippines—two developing countries and vibrant pluralistic democracies.
The 70-year-old diplomatic relationship between India and the Philippines and the areas of bilateral cooperation were highlighted by Ambassador Mazumdar in his audio-visual presentation. He explained that these relations had become broader and deeper today.
The reception showcased delicious Indian dishes from both North and South India. The works of some Indian artists were also exhibited. —CONTRIBUTED
