MANILA, Philippines – People who are dealing with hair loss can now look at a more viable, more convenient, and faster treatment option, which is now offered at Centre Medicale Internationale (CMI). The premier outpatient healthcare facility in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City is now home to an advanced hair regenerative therapy using a specialized device called Regenera Activa.
“Regenera Activa is accepted worldwide, is FDA approved, and is being used in Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and Europe,” said Dr. Rosario A. Blas, a Dermatologic Surgery Active Consultant at CMI. “This technology uses the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), which contains the progenitor cells that signal new hair to start growing.”
Unlike the now-common surgical hair transplants that usually take a strip from an area to implant to another site, and that can take several hours, CMI’s advanced hair regenerative therapy is significantly different in that the outpatient procedure is non-surgical and takes as little as 30 minutes to complete. The patient can resume normal activities within just 24 hours.
How it works
Three micrografts of actively growing hair (measuring 2 to 2.5 millimeters) are taken from the healthy portion of the patient’s scalp. Those are immediately processed through the Regenera Activa, the device that isolates progenitor cells from those samples in just a few minutes. The resulting solution is then injected into identified and targeted areas of the scalp that needs new hair growth.
“There is no risk of allergies, irritation, and rejection because the cells are from the same individual,” Dr. Blas explained. A patient can see noticeable improvement as quickly as a month to about three months. Patients who have a low tolerance for pain need not worry because local anesthesia is used throughout the procedure, which is entirely carried out by board-certified dermatologists. The fast procedure can be completed in 30 minutes.
The procedure
Any patient who wants to undergo this hair regenerative therapy has to first go through a strict and thorough medical screening carried out by CMI medical specialists. Based on medical assessments, patients who suffer from systemic illnesses and those recovering from cancer treatments may not be suitable candidates to undergo the procedure (at least until their conditions improve). CMI’s team will also have to first assess the underlying cause of hair loss to properly address other possible issues.
After getting the clearance from the screening process, the patient sets a schedule for the procedure. On the appointed day, the patient is led to a sterile dermatology suite and undergoes thorough scalp disinfection. Three micrografts will then be extracted and will go through the Regenera Activa device. The resulting solution of progenitor cells will immediately be injected back into the targeted areas of the scalp.
The advanced hair regenerative therapy package is comprised of the screening process, the procedure, and another follow-up consultation session wherein medical advice is provided for premier medical care. “There should be no adverse side effects. A patient may feel just a little discomfort in the scalp area but only for a few hours. We can just prescribe a tablet of common pain reliever. Overall, we aim for our patients to be happy and confident so they get what they pay for,” Dr. Blas ended.
