Bohol artist Geovanni Abing was declared grand prize winner of the 2020 Don Papa Art Competition in the recent Art Fair Philippines.
Represented by Talimbaw Art Gallery, Abing’s mixed-media “Timeless Landscape” best captured the theme “Flora and Fauna of Sugarlandia,” said Don Papa jurors.
Abing won a monthlong stay in Barcelona, Spain, inclusive of airfare, accommodation and allowance, from Bleeding Heart Rum Company, manufacturer of Don Papa Rum. His winning work will be rendered on special-edition Don Papa canisters.
Don Papa Rum is a small-batch rum from Negros Occidental, commonly referred to as “Sugarlandia.”
“My work portrays Sugarlandia as a magical place pulsating with life and floating over a sea of clouds,” said Abing.Joseph Ingking’s “Flora Fauna de Sugarlandia” won the People’s Choice and Artistic Merit Awards, while Daryl Feryl’s “Eden” got the Masskara Award.
