Lessons in Style: Playful and optimistic feat. Kelly Wearstler

Nowness just dropped the house tour of house tours, featuring the Hollywood home of interior designer Kelly Wearstler.

The estate was previously owned by Cubby and Dana Broccoli, creators of the James Bond films, and overlooks a picturesque horizon of cypress and palm trees.

Inside it’s pure Kelly Wearstler, from the skewed checkerboard tiles to the chunky, geometric furniture and art.

While Wearstler is best known for her signature style in home and living, usually less on the forefront is another signature: her playful and quirky wardrobe.

Below, we look at some of Kelly Wearstler’s best fashion moments, for some much needed color and optimism. —JG

LESSON 1: A muted palette doesn’t have to be somber. Here Kelly Wearstler mixes glitter and python like only the virtuosic texture queen can.

LESSON 2: Blue is the coolest color. Is it turqoise? Lapis? Cerulean? You may already have ventured into cobalt territory once before, but you get extra points for picking that blue no one quite knows the name of.

LESSON 3: Some style conundrums have a one-piece solution. It may be the Marine Serre moon-print body suit, or maybe it’s the jersey top with the matching leggings. Either way, nothing communicates a Gung-ho, come-what-may attitude than a committed fully body coverall.

Lesson 4: Go with the candidate with the best platform. A Bram Bogart piece to match with may not be easy to come by, but some hefty platform boots are a lot less challenging to cop.

LESSON 5 5: Go big and go home. How to rock a suit with a bolder-than-thou print? Fit is key. An oversized silhouette makes the vibe surprisingly laid-back and homey.
