MAKATI CITY, Philippines—The Miss World Philippines (MWP) organization has joined several other pageant entities in the country in calling for donations amid the COVID-19 pandemic gripping the world.

On its official Facebook page, MWP launched the campaign “#OurWorldAsOne: Salute to Frontliners” to collect funds “for the benefit of our unsung heroes: our medical frontliners who work 24/7 and need all the resources that they deserve.”

The drive hopes to provide the frontliners with “basic food supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other necessities,” the organization continued.

ALV Events International is owned by Arnold Vegafria, the national director of MWP. The national pageant organization espouses the “Beauty With a Purpose” mantra of its international partner, the Miss World Organization.

“Let us uphold camaraderie and spread the message of hope because we are all in this together, mga kababayan,” MWP said.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, two of the 2019 Miss World Philippines winners had their respective international assignments postponed.

Miss Eco Philippines Kelley Day was supposed to compete in the Miss Eco International pageant in Egypt on April 11, but the international organization tentatively rescheduled the coronation ceremonies to June 12.

The national pageant organization had already sent three of its 2019 winners abroad.

Miss World Philippines Michelle Dee finished in the Top 12 of the Miss World pageant in London, England, in December, while Daena Resurreccion earned a Top 5 spot in the Miss Eco Teen International in Egypt.

Katrina Llegado was proclaimed “Quinta Finalista” in the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant in Bolivia.

As of this writing, there have been 3,660 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, with 73 recoveries and 163 deaths.
