Beauty Notes: On Bella Thorne’s blue-green highlights | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

There is something at once of-the-moment and somehow prematurely nostalgic about green hair. I’m specifically thinking about Frank Ocean on Blond and Billie Eillish, who made green roots a thing.

I guess depending on the threshold of your interests, this extends further into Kardashian territory, Katy Perry, and K-pop.

Blond is Fran Ocean’s second album, released in 2016.

Then there’s Bella Thorne, who recently signed a deal with Fox to develop scripted and unscripted shows as the network’s “generational voice,” and her unique take on green hair.

As of this writing Bella’s green is a shade of sallow malachite, with only the front section of her hair dyed this hue. Consistent with the Tao of Bella, the effect is both grungy and offbeat.

I’d bet I’m not alone in this, but quarantine has been a great time to contemplate some crazy hair change, maybe because it safeguards you from acting on impulse.

Bella’s blue-green highlights is a great middle ground for any such inklings. It is sufficiently drastic as it is noncommittal.

For this desired effect, bleach doesn’t even have to touch the roots, and as seen on Bella’s selfies, green’s vibrance fades to a dusty pastel rather quickly. It won’t be too difficult to later color darker or strip lighter, if it comes to that.

So am I going green? I have some time to mull this over before I can go out to round up the supplies for this little DIY project. Although if the Bella bug sticks, I might have to take my business online.

Manic Panic dealers in the house, hit me up!
