Network lines are forgotten and filters are damned. Celebrities and various media personalities expressed their solidarity with ABS-CBN and didn’t hold back.
The network signed off the air yesterday upon receiving the cease and desist order from the National Telecommunications Commission. The order was released by the NTC in the middle of a COVID-19 pandemic when reliable information for millions of Filipinos is crucial and life-saving.
Artists and news anchors under ABS-CBN were quick to share their views on Twitter and Instagram, voicing out not just their own heartache but their concerns over the station’s 11,000 employees who are now rendered jobless. Some also pointed out how the move threatens press freedom in the country.
These sentiments were seconded by other celebrities, regardless of their network affiliation.
#DefendPressFreedom. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

Probably the saddest day on television history. In the middle of a big crisis that we are facing right now… this happened. In the middle of a pandemic. This happened. 🖤🖤🖤 #foreverkapamilya #intheserviceofthefilipino https://t.co/j8AOUG25yw

Welcome to the greatest cover up in Philippine History’s government failure to save the Filipino people from the pandemic. What a 💩 show. Abangan… Ang Nakaraan… 😅👏🏼
