As we’ve come to learn over time, there can be so many types of matriarchs. We are not just children of the mothers who birthed us.We are the children of the mothers we saw on TV and in film. And maybe not all moms would admit it, I bet they learned a trick or two from them too.
Here’s a small tribute to the mothers onscreen who collectively raised us into the kids we are now.
#1 Molly Weasley (‘Harry Potter’)
The sweet exterior was just a cover for the powerful witch who ended Bellatrix Lestrange.
#2 Rachel Green (‘Friends’)
Admit it or not, moms will do anything for us. Including singing “Baby Got Back.”
#3 Mrs. June George (‘Mean Girls’)
“I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.” That’s it. That’s all you need to know.
#4 Josie (‘Anak’)
I won’t explain why. This 7-minute clip should do it as Vilma Santos delivers the most moving lines about motherhood at her acting best.
#5 Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (‘Modern Family’)
She’s what you get when you combine a fiery Latina spirit, a body that won’t quit, and fierce maternal instincts.
#6 Amy (‘Bad Moms’)
A mother for the mothers. One with their struggles. “And whenever I’m actually starting to figure my kids out, they grow up and I’m back to square one.”
#7 Kitty Forman (‘That ’70s Show’)
A woman who was ahead of her time. Gloria Steinem is beaming with pride.
#8 Donna Sheridan-Carmichael (‘Mamma Mia’)
Because in reality, she’s Meryl Streep. And no best mother’s list should be without Meryl Streep.
#9 Lorelai Gilmore (‘Gilmore Girls’)
The real cool mom model for single moms and independent women.
#10 Jessica Huang (‘Fresh Off the Boat’)
In her book, a mother who pushes for excellence is an excellent mother.
#11 Leigh Anne Tuohy (‘The Blind Side’)
For this role, Sandra Bullock won the Academy Award for Best Actress, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.

“From now on, let me do the smiling for both of us.” America’s mother, ladies and gentlemen.
