The lockdown summoned out all our hidden selves and talents. Fitness gurus, writers, chefs, painters, coffee makers, and so on. Kaila Estrada, influencer and SM Youth brand ambassador, is a damn good cheese doughnut baker.
Not limiting her hobby, she opened up shop and it seems to be the answer to those craving for some cheese-laden carbs.
We got Kaila to answer a few questions in between baking sessions so she could tell us more about what she’s up to. Turns out, productivity is also seen in what you don’t post on the ‘gram.
Hey, Kaila! What’s your schedule like?
Since the lockdown, I started a small baking business called @goody.bakery. My routine would be to wake up at 6 am or 7 am, bake until around 11 am and dispatch orders.
I take a shower and have lunch, maybe take a nap then workout around 5 or 6 pm. I then have dinner. After that, I catch up on the shows I’m currently watching or watch a movie.
If I’m feeling energetic, I’ll probably do a mask or an extensive skincare routine but on most days, I’m so pooped that I’ll probably end up falling asleep around 11 pm.
Why do you love baking so much?
So I’ve always loved baking but I became so busy with work and school that I just didn’t have the time to do it. And when I finished college, I was still busy with other stuff. When the lockdown happened and I literally had nothing to do, I started baking again. Every. Single. Day.
I kinda got obsessed! I then decided to sell it within our area and because I post it all the time, people would order so I just continued until my mom and Bret Jackson talked me into I taking it seriously, and then I created @goody.bakery.
Will you continue with your bakery when we’re free from the crisis?
Yes! Absolutely! I’m thinking about working on the branding and packaging once it’s over.
How have you changed your social media posting and content creation?
I started doing TikTok videos which can be fun but also just been trying out bold makeup looks to practice.
I would also dress up and I would post them because it feels like I’m working in a shoot or something. It feels normal so it makes it easier for me to cope. I haven’t really been posting a whole lot because I’m so focused on my business but every so often, I do.
What is one thing you wish you appreciated more about the world outside?
Everything, honestly. I miss the freedom to roam around without worrying about getting a deadly virus. I miss having the option to watch a movie or eat in a restaurant or go to the gym.
What are other activities that you didn’t normally do that you now love?
Yoga. I normally go for high-intensity workouts because I find it fun and I feel like I burn more but since the lockdown, yoga has become one of my favorites. It’s so relaxing and it’s a good way to stretch tight muscles.
What’s your quarantine outfit?
Either a daster or a big T-shirt and shorts.
What are your lockdown snacks?
Midnights are for pancit canton and leftovers from something I baked.
Who are your Netflix Party pals?
Bret and my sisters
What’s your favorite self-care products at the moment?
Apple cider vinegar. It has so many uses and health benefits. I drink it with lemon water almost every morning and I use it in a face mask.
When was the last time you put on a full face of makeup? What products did you use?
I did a Facebook Live for SM Youth a week or two ago. I used the Happy Skin products from their Fresh Morning Dew line (foundation, lip & cheek tint) and my go-to Teviant products (eyeshadow, eyeliner, and mascara).
What’s in your online shopping cart?
I just emptied them out but what I was planning to buy is a bunch of skincare and hair products. Also, a massage gun!
