LIST: Why we love these 10 onscreen fathers | Lifestyle.INQ

OCTOBER 27, 2022

On Mother’s Day, we wrote about a few good fictional women. Today, we give you the Father’s Day edition of that list. These ten fathers make us laugh, cry, and defined badass.

We wanted to write about all the fictional fathers we love, but that list would be too long. Instead, we chose one dad that aptly represents a particular category or characteristic, proving that dads come in many shapes and sizes. All of them, however, always give us that paternal love that transcends boundaries.

Bravest Dad: Marlin – Finding Nemo

Marlin feared the Big Blue, but when it came to saving his son, he didn’t hesitate. His story is one of the greatest adventures that always makes us reach for the tissues.

Funniest Dad: Daniel/Mrs. Doubtfire – Mrs. Doubtfire

Some fathers believe that nothing is too crazy for them to do if that means they get to be close to their kids. Mrs. Doubtfire delivered slapstick and jokes that still seep through our quips…just like our own fathers!

Freshest Dad: Uncle Phil – The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Google “Best fictional dads” and Uncle Phil will come up for being a stand-up guy. His character made an impact on his onscreen children and even personalities like LeBron James and Drake.

Most Fabulous Dads: Cameron Tucker and Mitchell Pritchett – Modern Family

It’s refreshing to see characters like Mitchell Pritchett and Cameron Tucker on your TV screen. In Modern Family, these two actors (Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet) have earned an award or two for their respective roles. They are earnest family men with heart and humor.

Tough but Sweet Dad: Martin Crane – Fraser

Marty Crane’s ornery demeanor is a cover for the fact that he’s a big softie. He continually worries he’s not being the best father to his children, even if they’re old enough to pour themselves some scotch.

Badass Dad: Jason “Furious” Styles – Boyz n the Hood

Laurence Fishburne brings to life a man who tells it like it is and defines what being a dad means: “Well, remember this: Any fool with a d**k can make a baby, but only a real man can raise his children.”

Most Loveable Dad: Harry Kim – Always Be My Maybe

If not for Harry Kim, Marcus Kim (Randall Park) wouldn’t realize that Sasha Tran (Ali Wong) is the love of his life, and we wouldn’t have the uplifting rom-com Always Be My Maybe

Everyone’s Favorite Dad: John Puruntong – John n Marsha

Perhaps the one character who could summarize what makes for a Filipino dad who keeps trying to do his best.

Too Eager for His Good: Elliot Birch – Big Mouth

Elliot is who you’re looking for when you want to find the type of father who knows every eye-roll worthy dad joke and anecdote in the book. We still love him anyway.

Don’t Ever Mess with Him: Bryan Mills – Taken

Say it with me now: “If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you. I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”
