Fake social media accounts of celebrities are a dime a dozen, and the latest to be the victim of this kind of scam is Megastar Sharon Cuneta.
On her verified Twitter account, Cuneta announced to her fans and followers the existence of a fake Twitter account bearing her name and using her face.
Showing an image of the fake Twitter account with the handle @sharon_cuneta14 (her own verified account is @sharon_cuneta 12), she said in her July 12 post, “This is a FAKE TWITTER ACCOUNT. Please remember that my accounts are verified! Please, kindly unfollow and report this account. Thank you so much.”
The fake Twitter account already had 89 followers and is following 99 accounts. Loyal followers of the Megastar immediately responded to Cuneta’s call and stated that they have reported and blocked the fake account.

One @Irish08553971 who was curious asked, “[Ano] kaya napapala ng mga taong ganto!?? [Siguro] nabubusog [sila] sa ginagawa nila.” (What do these people get out of doing this? Maybe they get filled up.)
One @iVaNDy27777084 believes it is only popular celebrities who get victimized by this kind of scam, saying, “[Ganoon] talaga pagsikat po hahays mga walang magawa.” (It’s really like that for celebrities. Sigh, [the fakers] don’t have anything better to do.)
Another recent victim of a fake Twitter account is Gretchen Barretto, who, like Cuneta, also exposed the fake account on July 12.
“The POSER OF A TWITTER ACCOUNT CLAIMING TO BE ME IS NOW CLAIMING TO BE (way Better) Dreams are free [if] it helps you ESCAPE YOUR REALITY, Go [laughter emoji] proDuterte.” JB
