In aid of jobless musicians and 30 families, Kuh Ledesma auctions off artworks from her collection

Veteran singer Kuh Ledesma is letting go of her precious artworks for a good cause – to help friends and fellow artists in need.

Ledesma, “a self-confessed hoarder,” announced the effort through a video she posted on her official Facebook page (@iLoveKUH), last Friday, July 24.

She “hoarded” the artworks over the years out of her desire to support the visual artists who made them. Out of the same goal to help, she said she is now willing to let go off these pieces to raise funds.

“I have so many things I bought from the past and would like to let go of them now to support the 30 families that I am helping during this pandemic, and also musicians na walang trabaho (musicians who have no work) for the longest time, friends sa mga (in the) press that have helped me and have helped all of us – musicians and artists – to put out our shows,” she explained.

Each item in the auction has its own story and Ledesma is “going to be explaining each one.”

“I hope that you will find something that you will love, that I have loved and have kept for many years. Marami pa po ito (there’s many of this) and I’d be putting up a store online. Too many things. It’s time to let go of a lot of it now dahil (because) things like these are not as important as helping other people,” she said.

“[You] will find out about the prices where you can auction in my social media platforms, my Instagram and also my Facebook. I am excited about this. I hope you are, too. God bless,” Ledesma announced.

She has started posting some of the items and as promised, the shared personal anecdotes attached to them.

In a photo of a Roberto Robles installation of art boxes, for example, she said, “[One] of them has a poem that I wrote to my husband Louie because the box is about soldiers and he was into soldiers and war things.” She even shared the text of the verse.

Another one item shown was a painting of an earthen jar and Ledesma revealed how it came to her possession.

“This is the first ever painting that I bought when I was starting my career as a singer. I won’t tell you how much I bought it at that time. There was a lady who just came to our house because she knew that I lived there and she offered it to me. It’s by F. Castillo if I’m not mistaken,” she recalled. “I love it because it’s very Filipino. It reminds me of home. It reminds me of our country.”

Ledesma also has “a separate Instagram account for the collection with the handle @kuhlection.” The collection can also be viewed on her personal Instagram page. JB
