Former GirlTrends member Dawn Chang has been reminiscing recently about her days as a theme park performer in Hong Kong Disneyland.
“For everyone who doesn’t know and has never been to @hkdisneyland, this is what I used to do 9 years ago,” she said of the video she posted on her Instagram page on Aug. 16. She can be seen with two other female dancers, performing as they were bound to a harness.
“Yup! That’s me,” Chang added.
Dancing in mid-air while attached to a harness was a big challenge for Chang who is suffering from acrophobia or fear of heights.
“I’ve done one of the most difficult [characters] at the Flights Of Fantasy Parade. Weeks of intense stamina and bungee harness training. You don’t get to perform unless you perfect the routine!” she recalled.
And as she is “scared of heights,” there is nothing she can do but perform because her phobia was “not an excuse.”
“You can cry and complain all you want but you still have to do it! Sugat sugat singit namin (Our groins hurt) but we have toned abs and arms,” she added.
Chang also narrated that while performing in the said theme park, she cannot frown despite the intense heat, or even when she was going through something in life. Still, each performance was fulfilling, more so every time she saw happy faces among the audience.
“But you know what.. when you see the smile on people’s faces while watching you perform… pati yung mga magulang na mas excited pa sa mga anak nila (including parents who are more excited than their children)… It’s all worth it,” Chang said. “I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.” JB
