To help people who do not have electricity in their areas, celebrity fitness guru and veteran actress Jackie Lou Blanco, along with her daughters Arabella and Rikki Mae, have participated in a project for making solar lamps.
Blanco and her daughters showed the step-by-step process of making solar lights in an Instagram video yesterday, Aug. 24.
“So blessed to have been given this opportunity to help make Solar Lamps with my girls, @getyourfrikon and @aradabao for communities that have no electricity,” Blanco said.
Apparently, Blanco and her daughters were challenged by social entrepreneur Illac Diaz to participate in the environmental project. Diaz is the founder of Liter of Light which has produced light for more than 140,000 homes nationwide since 2011 with the use of recycled plastic bottles and other locally sourced materials.
“Thank you so much@illlacdiaz of @literoflight for reaching out. My girls and I are privileged to be part of your endeavor,” Blanco said.
She explained the advantage of having solar lamps, saying, “each hand-build solar light will last for the next five years, 12 hours a day, and reduce carbon emissions by 1000 kg!”
“Aside from helping villages to have electricity, we will also be helping our environment,” she added.
To make more solar lamps and to help more people, Blanco appealed to her celebrity-friends to join the project. Those she tagged included fellow actors Mariz Ricketts, Katrina Halili, Manilyn Reynes, Sunshine Dizon, Janine Gutierrez, Rayver Cruz, Sheena Halili, Dawn Zulueta and Raymond Lauchengco.
“I want to challenge my friends,” she said as she asked them to join the cause for sustainable energy. “Let us be the light to the darkness. Let’s Light it Forward!” JB
