Fear has slowly crept in for actress LJ Reyes upon learning that some of her “friends, co-workers and acquaintances” have acquired the novel coronavirus which causes COVID-19.
The Kapuso actress and partner of actor Paolo Contis spoke about these fears and how her family has been coping, as per her Instagram post yesterday, Sept. 7.
“Do you ever feel like covid is coming too close to home?” she asked.
She related how she has been affected by the crisis as “the latter months have revealed several friends, co-workers, acquaintances and [a] friend-of-a-friend acquiring the virus.”
Because of this, Reyes feels that the dreaded virus is “just right outside my home like [a] burglar lurking in and waiting for the right opportunity to come in and invade my safe haven.”
The first half of the year had been full of anxiety for Reyes, as she took precautionary measures to protect her and her family from the virus.
“For the past 6 months, (yes that’s already half a year) we have been so anxious and careful with our actions to protect our family and at the same time to contribute to putting an end to this pandemic,” she said.
“We have lost a lot of lives, no matter what the figures say, more than [one] is many. (Heroes and patients alike),” she added.
While Reyes is “not scared of death as it is a reconciliation with our Creator,” what she is so concerned about is the welfare of her children, being still too young should she fall fatally ill.
“I am scared of leaving my young kids not yet ready on their own to face this challenging world. Everyone is tired and is feeling helpless against this fight,” she explained.
Although the number of pandemic victims and fatalities increase by the day, Reyes is hopeful that it can be addressed through “collective and synchronous effort from each and everyone.”
“No finger-pointing, no blaming, no self-glorifying, no taking advantage, just pure concern for each and every person in this planet, in this country — in our country,” she appealed. “You and I can put a stop to this. We are all held responsible.”
All that we have to do is to be “cautious, transparent and (intricately) careful,” Reyes added.
She then asked netizens to follow quarantine protocols like wearing of mask and face shields, practicing social distancing, disinfecting, sterilizing, being hygienic, being honest and transparent and seeking help when needed. JB
