Kapuso actress Kris Bernal might have shocked many of her fans when she guested at TV5’s “Chika, BESH! Basta Everyday Super Happy” hosted by Pokwang, Pauleen Luna-Sotto and Ria Atayde. What people don’t know is that she’s now a freelance artist.
Bernal said she didn’t breach her contract because it already expired long before her TV5 guesting, she revealed in her YouTube vlog on Sept. 14, where she answered some fan questions.
“My contract with GMA 7 has expired during this pandemic,” she said. Still, Bernal did get permission from her former network for that gig.
“I informed my bosses about this guesting and they were okay about it. Syempre, hindi ko ito gagawin kung makakabangga po ako or kung may masasaktan ako,” she explained. (Of course, I would not do that if it would place me at odds with anyone or hurt anyone.)
Bernal explained that her “first and only manager throughout [her] showbiz career for more than 13 years now was GMA Artist Center.”
“Right now, I can say that I am a freelancer and I have no manager yet,” Bernal said. She has not yet decided on getting a new manager because she’s considering who to approach.
She was also brave to admit that her network had no offer yet, saying, “I think everything is still uncertain during these times and I totally understand it.”
“But I’m still doing guesting with GMA, yes kinukuha pa rin naman po nila ako. And of course, trabaho is trabaho, tatangapin at tatangapin ko po ‘yan,” she added. (Yes, GMA still gets me. And of course, work is work, I will accept and accept that.)
Bernal also clarified that she does not have any disagreement or issues with GMA: “I think I’ve been really cooperative and really professional with all my dealings with them.”
Now that she’s free, will she consider joining another network? On this, Bernal is not sure because she values her former network for giving her the breaks and training her.
“I am just really praying to God where He will lead me,” she said. JB
