Online all-Filipino book fair runs

Due to the pandemic, the popular Filipino book fair Aklatan has moved online to Lazada Sept. 25-27. The book festival is aimed at giving a boost to the local publication industry by making local literature popular.

For Filipino writers and publishers, Aklatan is a major source of promotion and inspiration, as it brings into the limelight local Filipino talent. From popular fiction stories to history, culture, biography, children’s literature and more, a whole new world of knowledge and fantasy arrives with Aklatan.

There will be celebrity writers, emerging talent and award-winning authors to know and read.

The festival is organized by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP).

This year, there will be more than 40 local publishers at Aklatan. Filipino booksellers and publishers have also seen their sales hit by the pandemic, and bookstores have been shut. New book releases have been held back, and launch events have been canceled. —RUEL S. DE VERA
