Rica Peralejo, with a bamboo stick, proves parenting needn’t require too much material things

Actress Rica Peralejo is continuously learning a lot about parenting and freely shares it to her fans. The latest lesson is on how she observed that to be an effective parent, we do not always need a lot of material things to be given to one’s child.

“The other day my son saw an activity in his book that encourages kids to write thank you cards. I asked him if he wanted to write one and to whom would he like to address it. His answer? ‘To Tito Charlie. For giving me the bamboo stick,’” Peralejo recounted, as seen on her Instagram page today, Sept. 21, where she also posted a photo of herself with her kids, taken by another relative.

She can be seen engaged with them in play, while they appear to be holding on to a piece of bamboo stick. Her son’s answer surprised her because he also owns toys such as Lego sets and Ninja Warrior Training devices.

“He remembers a random bamboo stick that my brother in law did not even buy,” Peralejo noted. “Tama nga siya, ang regalo daw dapat sa amin kapag pasko ay Ace Hardware GC kasi ang gusto lang naman ng mga bata ay yung mga cables na nagkalat kung saan saan atsaka mga patpat.”

(My brother-in-law is right. The best Christmas gift for us is a hardware gift check since the kids only want cables and sticks they can scatter.)

“All to say na sa parenting, it does not take much in some places, and in other places it does,” she stressed. “Sa gamit, okay na ang bamboo stick. Sa oras, hindi sapat yung isang dinner lang. Kahit kulang ang pera, basta may creativity, okay tayo. Oo, kailangan marunong ng hygiene, pero kailangan din ng lupa at dumi.”

(On material things, it’s okay to have just a bamboo stick. On time, a dinner is not enough. The money may not be enough, but as long as there is creativity, we’re OK. Yes, they need to know proper hygiene, but they need to get dirty.)

Peralejo thinks that though we might think it can get costly to be a parent, what parents simply need actually is to have love.

“So mahirap ba siya o madali (So is it hard or easy)?” she asked about parenting, to which she also gave an answer, “BOTH.” JB
