If you’re like many of us, you’ve probably been feeling joyless at the prospect of dressing up in the morning with nowhere to go. Comfort is paramount as you work from home, but we have little doubt that loungewear gives equal pleasure as slipping into your cute clothes and nice heels, and accessorizing to conquer the day.

It takes very little, however, to elevate your quarantine fashion and put some normalcy back into your daily style routine, whether you’re simply homebound doing Zoom meetings or have to step out for the occasional errand.

Let’s take Olivia Palermo as our peg. The American fashion influencer has been photographed all over New York during the pandemic sporting beautifully printed silk scarves as face covering.

Upon closer inspection, one can see the ear loops of a surgical mask underneath her scarves, since scarves, bandanas and other cloth coverings don’t offer the same protection against the virus as medical-grade masks—though they could add a layer of protection. The message: Style doesn’t have to take a backseat as you protect yourself.

When you’re working from home, it also takes very little to upgrade your look for your virtual meetings by using a scarf. Knot it around your neck to give oomph to your plain white shirt, or learn other fanciful and clever ways of tying those fine silk squares, with some tutorials from Hermès, as seen on this page.

So, go ahead, bring out those silk scarves and put some joy back into your everyday dressing.
