Actress Aubrey Miles has been planting for years now and has studied about plants that she now wants to share important lessons about indoor and outdoor gardening through her experience.
While some think that indoor and outdoor planting is plainly “the same, but different,” Miles stressed that one’s “love for plants indoor or outdoor can be the same” as per her Instagram post, Sept. 25.
“We do our best for them to thrive in our chosen environment because we’re all happy people,” she said.
“We can always blame the weather or some unknown cause of nature. Or simply sneaky bugs out at night. We try to control the outside situation but you really can’t mess with nature,” she noted about outdoor gardening.
Meanwhile, bringing plants “inside your home” is one’s “total responsibility.”
“You will be to blame whether good or bad things happen to your plants. Once they enter your home it’s all on you. (Unless you get a sick plant),” she said.
“You are responsible for the light, the water, and the air they crave. Even the bugs that find their way in,” she said.
But Miles is not trying to scare anyone with her point.
“If you have already started with indoor plants then you know what I’m talking about,” she said, stressing that “the good part is, it’s ok to make mistakes, or to hit or miss.”
“Planting is a never ending learning experience,” Miles said. “If a plant has died on your watch, it’s normal. Ask the more experienced/pros, it happens. You’re normal.”
Indoor gardening is a rewarding experience although it “can be a lot of work,” she thinks. With plants, a gardener can achieve many things.
“You can learn from plants. Gain new or more friends. Even earn from it,” she said. “Just think, it took me years to have the guts to cut a monstera. So never get discouraged. Be like a plant and grow and bounce back. Live again and again.”
But there’s more to learn from planting, according to Miles, as she reminds fellow plant lovers, “Yes, you can collect all kinds of indoor plants but make sure the species can match you and your space can accommodate.” JB
