KZ Tandingan, TJ Monterde look back on wedding planning woes amid pandemic

It turns out that newlyweds KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde faced numerous problems while they were planning their wedding.

After their original wedding plan got botched due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the singers finally exchanged their I do’s on Sept. 28 at The Farm at San Benito in Lipa, Batangas.

While the actual wedding was of course memorable, the couple went candid in speaking about their frustrations on their cancelled wedding plans in a RAWR Nation YouTube vlog last Saturday, Nov. 7.

“Yung wedding originally plinano namin siya sa Baguio. ‘Yung original plan namin Aug. 28,” Monterde said.

(The wedding was originally planned for Baguio. Our original plan was Aug. 28.)

But things changed in March when the pandemic spread across the country and lockdowns were imposed.

“So nag-decide kami nu’ng time na ‘yun na wala na, ano na ‘to postpone na ‘to. Let’s move it next year na ‘to kasi ang hirap, eh. Parang hindi posibleng magpakasal sa gitna na isang pandemya,” Monterde recalled.

(So we decided at that time that it is over, that it is postponed. Let’s move it next year, we said, because it’s hard. It is as if it’s not possible to get married in the midst of a pandemic.)

They also noted that not one of any of their plans can be done, leading them to believe that indeed, “tomorrow is not promised.”

“’Di natin alam kung anong mangyayari sa bukas kaya du’n din kami nakapag-decide na sige ituloy na natin ‘yung kasal,” Monterde said.

(We do not know what would happen tomorrow. That was when we decided to just push through.)

Tandingan recalled how they made a new set of plans considering the existing lockdown restrictions.

“Medyo challenging po kasi ‘di ba ‘yung restrictions (and) guidelines ng quarantine, ng lockdown, parang every 15th and 30th of the month nagbabago,” Tandingan said.

(It’s quite challenging because the restrictions and guidelines of the quarantine, of the lockdown, changes approximately every 15th and 30th of the month.)

With that, the couple had to make some adjustments. For example, they needed to trim their guest list to comply with pandemic restrictions.

“It was a challenge for us to be able to find the venue [that’s] safe for everybody, [where] we can still enjoy the wedding despite the pandemic,” Tandingan said.

After the choice on a new venue was finalized, it was only then that the details of the new wedding plan were decided on.

The singer noted that it was to their advantage that there were not so many guests involved.

“Kaya kung anumang maliliit na changes, so ang bilis lang naming naka-cascade ‘yung mga balita, name-message lang namin agad,” she said. “Since we’re very close to these people, very understanding sila sa mga changes.”

(Whatever little changes still had to be made, we were able to cascade it fast, we messaged [the guests] immediately. And since we’re close to these people, they were very understanding of these changes.)

Fans can have a glimpse of the couple’s wedding in the short film shot by videographer Jason Magbanua.

The video was posted in Magbanua’s YouTube channel on Oct. 28. JB
