Kim Atienza joins fight against online exploitation of children

Sports buff and weatherman Kim Atienza is advocating the stop of online abuse of children which has become a global concern.

Atienza believes that the problem has escalated and needs to be discussed, as per his Instagram post yesterday, Nov. 24.

“Today, I stand with International Justice Mission (IJM) to fight to end online sexual exploitation of children,” he stated.

The pandemic, he said, is a big factor in the rise of online sexual abuse of children.

“This impacts countless globally, especially in the Philippines, where the livestreaming sexual abuse of children – even infants – has risen. This is partly because of a ‘perfect storm’ of COVID-19 factors: Children are locked down with their abusers and offenders are spending more online,” he explained.

Atienza further stressed his point by sharing a video which aims to give the public a clearer view of how serious the problem is. The video showed celebrities lending their voices to the cause by reading headlines of reports about such abuses. Solenn Heussaff, Tony Gonzaga and Dingdong Dantes participated in the video.

“We need to stop this. We believe a collective voice will end this crime. We need you. We need you to LISTEN. To give $10. And to FIGHT,” Atienza said, asking fans and followers to donate to the advocacy by going to the website of IJM’s Just Giving project. JB
