Normal human beings can have superpowers, too

Have you ever wondered why individuals with extraordinary mental and physical abilities are often depicted in novels, movies and television programs as either monstrous characters, freaks or mutants?

Superheroes are never depicted as normal human beings. They are described usually as either coming from another planet like Krypton (in the case of Superman), or as mutants (in the case of the X-Men), or as being sons of Greek gods and mortal women.

For example, Herakles (or Hercules) in Greek and Roman mythology was the son of Zeus (king of the gods) and a mortal woman Alcmene, granddaughter of the hero Perseus.

But are there real human beings who exhibit the same powers possessed by the X-Men depicted in comic books and the movies? Yes, but not to the same exaggerated degree depicted in fiction.

Strong telepathic powers

For example, there are real human beings with strong telepathic powers who can read thoughts and make other people obey their command.

There are individuals like Uri Geller of Israel and Thomas of Brazil who can bend spoons and any metallic objects with their mind alone.

There are individuals, like Sathya Sai Baba of India and Swami Premananda of Sri Lanka, who can materialize small physical objects from their hands.

Only recently on a local TV show, an 11-year-old boy from Iloilo, who could see and describe objects shown to him while blindfolded, was interviewed. He didn’t look or behave like a mutant, a freak or an extraterrestrial.

There are real, normal human beings who can levitate like St. Padre Pio, a Capuchin monk, and St. Joseph of Cupertino, a Franciscan friar, and about 16 other saints of the Catholic Church.

Outside the Christian religion, the most famous person who levitated was the Scottish medium Daniel Dunglas Home. Hundreds of people witnessed him floating in the air or going in and out of windows of houses.

A special type of Tibetan meditation and spiritual practice can develop in people special extraordinary powers beyond belief. Alexandra David-Neel, a Belgian-French woman and the first Western woman to enter Tibet at a time when it was forbidden for foreigners to enter the country, related in her fascinating book “Magic and Mystery in Tibet” (published in 1929) how she witnessed Tibetan monks jump from one mountain or hill to another as if in flight. She also saw monks generate heat from their body by the sheer power of their mind alone, to dry a wet blanket in the subzero climate of Lhasa. Later, Neel learned how to perform “tommo” herself.

Her book relates many other extraordinary mental feats or abilities of the Tibetan monks which are described by Western writers and researchers as psychic, supernatural or paranormal powers.

Ultimate goal

If one were to read the stories found in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible, he will discover that such powers are not miracles, but the natural capacity of the human mind.

We have in our minds such faculties of telepathy, precognition, remote viewing, clairvoyance and telekinesis that lie dormant in the average human being but can be developed through different practices or discipline.

In my extrasensory perception classes, many students realize their powers if they know the proper way of developing or awakening such powers. It needs discipline and patience to do so, but these can be done.

And now, science has come up with experiments to prove that such powers really exist. We don’t have to be mutants or come from other planets, or be sons and daughters of the gods to be able to do these things.

Human evolution seems to point out that the ultimate goal of evolution is for man to evolve into Superman.

I believe the emergence or manifestation of such psychic abilities or mental powers as telepathy, clairvoyance, remote viewing, astral projection and cosmic consciousness represent the next phase of human evolution on planet Earth, culminating into what paleontologist Teilhard de Chardin calls “Christogenesis,” with godlike powers.
