Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco will be providing clothes for Austria’s contestant in Eurovision Song Contest 2021, to be held in May in Rotterdam. Singer Vincent Bueno, however, is not simply an Austrian talent, but the son of Filipino immigrants.
“Everything considered, even if he represents Austria, he is the first ever Filipino to join the prestigious competition,” Cinco wrote on his personal Facebook page.
Eurovision is an international song competition that features mainly contestants from European countries. Swedish band ABBA, in 1974, and Celine Dion, representing Switzerland in 1988, are previous winners.
Bueno is in good musical company, as the veteran designer has dressed the likes of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Brown, Toni Braxton, Brandy, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Fergie of the Black-Eyed Peas, Nicole Scherzinger and Rihanna.
Cinco told Lifestyle that he was contacted by a friend on Instagram who asked if the designer was interested to dress the Austrian bet. Introductions were made, and Cinco and Bueno started chatting about clothing options for the finals.
“I first talked to Vincent via phone when he called me from his studio in Austria. He then sent me a video clip of his Eurovision entry song ‘Amen,’ which I liked a lot. I was thinking of dressing him up in a long beaded coat inspired by the opulent ancient Persian empire, where rulers used to wear elaborate and exquisite wardrobes,” Cinco said. “The other one is a simple long gray coat from my new collection.”
The designer provided Lifestyle with a sketch of the beaded coat as well as publicity photos of Bueno wearing the actual coat. The long coat is worn open at the front and features beading down the length of the placket and down the sleeves.
“He was very nice and humble after he sang his entry song for me and I was convinced to dress him up for the event,” Cinco said.
