Filipino-American basketball player Remy Macaspac Martin announced via Instagram that he’s joining the 2020 NBA draft class. The shooting guard from Arizona State says that joining the NBA draft is a step towards making his dream a reality.

The 21-year-old college student is set to become the second Filipino-American player in NBA history next to Utah Jazz’s Jordan Clarkson to participate in the draft. In the 2019-2020 NCAA season, Martin averaged 19 points, four assists, and three rebounds per game and led Arizona State to the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the tournament was canceled last month due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Starting from a young age, I have worked towards the opportunity to play in the NBA and I have now decided to take another step into making my dream a reality,” says the Filipino-American collegiate star.

The 6’0 guard from Chatsworth, California was also one of the candidates to win Conference Player of the Year in the Pac-12 division. Martin was part of the Pac-12 Second Team Roster last year and was named Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year during his freshman year.

Martin is known as a superb defender and passer. He scores by getting to the rim and hitting mid-range jumpers. In November 2019, Martin showed his best game in the college league after scoring a career high of 33 points against Princeton University to propel his team to a 67-65 victory.
