How James Bond and Miley Cyrus influenced “Angel Baby” by GIBBS

Last month, we unknowingly spotted a TikTok sneak peek of sisters Chi Gibbs and Gabs Gibbs shooting the video for “Angel Baby.” Almost exactly a month after this sly BTS, “Angel Baby” is now here officially. It’s a bop that we’re going to use for our own TikTok videos.

In GIBBS’ first video, “No Hearts,” we knew that this duo produces only visually exciting music videos. “Angel Baby” just put an exclamation point to that statement. This video is a fulfillment of Chi and Gabs’ desire to work with the best. The music is created with producer Moophs of Tarsier Records. BJ Pascual serves as the photographer and creative director, as the sisters sport looks by celebrity makeup artist Mac Igarta and hairstylist Rudolf Davalos.

Like the true fans that we are, Lifestyle Inquirer slid into Chi’s DMs to get to know more about the video and what’s coming next.

What’s the story behind “Angel Baby”?
“Angel Baby” is a mix of everything we were obsessed with in quarantine. We were obsessed with a horror-action show called Lovecraft Country. Since we were cooped up at home for months, we created a fantasy world with Y2K, James Bond, and horror themes in mind. Basically, it’s a heroine’s story fighting her demons.

Tell us about the outfits. Any favorite look?
For the outfits, we really wanted to go for Y2K sci-fi! Jana Silao, who styled us, did an amazing job translating what we had in mind.
Gabs: For me, I would say it would be my devil outfit. When will I ever get to use my mom’s vintage suit again?
Chi: For me, it’s my heaven angel look. Cindy Lou inspired my hair, and my patent leather set was custom-made by JustBonita.

What other records or songs you and Gabs were listening to while coming up with “Angel Baby”?
I’d say we were listening to a lot of James Bond movie theme songs, Miley Cyrus’ Plastic Hearts, The Weeknd, and ’80s rock!

How does “Angel Baby” play with “No Hearts”? Is it connected somehow?
I think they both have a retro feel. Gabs and I gravitate towards the ’70s and ’80s in terms of music, and I feel like you hear that in both. Also, for both songs, we want whoever listens to feel empowered and badass.

Without giving away too much, what can we expect from you and Gabs next?
More music for sure! And hopefully, live performances in due time!

Tarsier Records is behind productions like Kiana Valenciano’s “No Rush,” Leila Alcasid’s “Better Weather” EP, and Iñigo Pascual’s rendition of the karaoke fave, “All Out of Love.”
