Confab on Cirilo F. Bautista calls for submissions

The late National Artist for Literature Cirilo F. Bautista

In celebration of the 80th birth anniversary of National Artist for Literature Cirilo F. Bautista, Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing Center (BNSCWC) of De La Salle University issues the call for papers for The First National Literary Conference on Cirilo F. Bautista on July 9.

The conference aims to promote scholarship on the works of Bautista in light of new developments in theory and criticism. It also wishes to shed light on his understudied works, like his fiction, criticism and even paintings. The conference addresses the gap in scholarship on canonical Filipino writers, especially national artists.

Papers using various theories and approaches on the poetry, short fiction, novel, criticism and nonfiction work of Bautista as well as on his translations and paintings are welcome. Sample topics include: narrating the nation and Bautista; the modernist tradition and Bautista; Southeast Asian archipelagic poetics and the “Rubber Tower”; the fjords of language; visual cultures and Bautista; histories and/as translations; gendered Bautista; the Cosmopolitan Cirilo; literaryscapes and Bautista; performing Cirilo; and Bautista and the sciences.

Abstracts of 250 to 350 words must be submitted to bnscwc@dlsu.edu.ph. Since the abstracts shall be peer-reviewed, the DOCx file must contain only the title, abstract and key words. In the subject line, write “CFB Conference 2021.”

In the email proper, put the following: complete title of the proposed paper; proponent’s full name; institutional affiliation (department/unit and university); and email address.

Abstracts and papers must be written in either English or Filipino and double-spaced using font size 12 Times New Roman, 1 inch by 1 inch margin and MLA 9th edition documentation style. For the full paper, word count ranges from 4,000 to 10,000 words.

Deadline for submission is April 30. Accepted abstracts will be announced May 15, and participants are expected to finish and submit their papers by June 30.
