Actress and yoga instructor Maxene Magalona is giving away free vegan cookies in support of spreading kindness and good vibes during this time of a pandemic.
Magalona spoke about her liking for plant-based desserts and how she came about making them, as seen on her Instagram post today, April 18.
“When I first transitioned to a plant-based diet, I had a hard time finding desserts that I liked that didn’t have refined sugar. So in order to make sure that I was eating desserts that only use unrefined sweeteners, I started making my own,” she said.
Magalona has been doing this long before she and her husband musician Rob Mananquil left for Bali.
“I would hand out vegan cookies to my students after each yoga class. I would also bring my cookies to taping and make the cast, staff and crew try them. Thankfully, they liked it!” she recalled.
Incidentally, Magalona considers Bali a “vegan dessert heaven” where one can find “decadent ooey gooey chocolate cakes” and “healthy raw vegan treats.”
Now that she’s returned to the Philippines after her and her husband’s year-long stay in Bali, Magalona has been spending a great deal of her time baking vegan treats and sharing them with her loved ones.
“I really believe that we can all have sweet treats that are guiltless and cruelty-free,” she said.
Recently, she has teamed up with friends who encouraged her to make more vegan cookies and to share these to those who are willing to try them out.
“We decided to team up and start making vegan cookies with the intention of spreading sweetness while raising awareness about the importance of being kind in the world today,” she said. “We have to consciously remind ourselves that we are all going through a difficult time and choose to be kind to each other as we believe kindness can really help bring some comfort, sweetness and warmth.”
Magalona announced that she’s giving away the free one dozen chocolate chip cookies to one of her followers within Metro Manila by just following the Instagram page @bekind.ph. JB
