Moms rule K-dramas. It’s in the way they prepare their banchan, or side dishes, for their kids or their kids’ crushes. You can find them moving the characters forward. Good or bad, moms are some of the biggest influencers of our favorite characters. Here are some memorable lines from K-drama moms.
Baek Eun-hye as Mi-jin,
Mother of Hong Ji-a, “Sell your Haunted House” (2021)“Performing an exorcism isn’t just for the people who have passed. It’s also for the people who are left behind. They must go on with their lives.”
Kim Ha-neul as Jung Da-jung,
Mother of Si-ah and Si-woo, “18 Again” (2020)“You can see the size of love on rainy days even when you’re sharing an umbrella. Through the slope of the umbrella, the size of your love shows. Love falls with rain like that.”
Park Hee-bon as Eun-tak’s mother
“Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” (2016)“Everyone is born with their own dictionary.” Eun-tak actually said this to Gong Yoo in their first conversation. She followed her mom’s words with, “My dictionary doesn’t include happiness and luck no matter how hard I look.” Omo, her mom must have been so sad to hear this in the afterlife.
Yum Jung-ah as Seo-jin,
Mother of Ye-seo and Ye-bin, “Sky Castle” (2018-2019)“Mother, wait and see. I’ll raise her way better than you raised your own son.” She said this when she was asking for money from her mother-in-law to support Ye-seo’s bid to enter a prestigious university.
Kim Hae-suk as Rosa,
Mother of Jeong-won, “Hospital Playlist” (2020) “Is that why you splashed a bucket of dirty water on them? That was great. You must blow off steam. Do whatever you want to do and say whatever you want to say. Good job.”
Hang Hye-jin as Myeong-eun,
Mother of Seo Dan, “Crash Landing on You” (2019-2020)
“I’m breaking off this engagement because my daughter doesn’t want it. I should apologize. I will explain our circumstances. Dan has someone she loves. And the guy loves Dan even more than his own life. So I have no choice. We only live once. And they love each other more than their lives. There’s nothing I can do about it.”
Jang Hye-jin as Hyun-suk,
Mother of Ju-gyeong, “True Beauty” (2020-2021)“My baby, why didn’t you tell me? You should’ve told me. Why did you keep all the pent-up emotions by yourself? I had no idea that was happening to my baby. Who was it? I’m going to take revenge on them. My baby, I’m so sorry!” Hyun-suk said this to Ju-gyeong when she found out that her daughter was being bullied in school for being plain. This is the first time she expressed how much she loved her daughter.
