For Art Fair Philippines, running until May 15, León Gallery presents “Elemental: Geometric Abstract Art.” Choice and select pieces from some of the country’s leading abstractionists, of varying generations, affirm that nonobjective art continues to hold sway among Filipino artists, since the postwar period to the present times.
On view are representative works of Lee Aguinaldo, Norberto Carating, Florencio Concepcion, Jose Joya, Lao Lianben, Romulo Olazo, Bernardo Pacquing, Nena Saguil and Fernando Zobel. A companion exhibit at León Gallery International presents the works of three key figures in the history of Western abstraction: the German-born painter and educator Josef Albers, the Venezuela op and kinetic artist Jesus Rafael Soto and the French-Hungarian father of op art, Victor Vasarely.
León Gallery International is at G/F, Corinthian Plaza, 121 Paseo de Roxas, Makati, Metro Manila; tel. 0288562781, 0998-5172101; visit artfairphilippines.com.
