The friendship of actresses Melai Cantiveros, Karla Estrada and Jolina Magdangal is hinged on their ability to be true to themselves and to each other.
Cantiveros spoke about her beautiful friendship with Estrada and Magdangal during the online press conference for their movie “Momshies! Ang Soul Mo’y Akin” last Saturday, May 8.
“Ang sikereto namin is wala kaming tinatago. Wala pala kaming sikreto kasi kung ano ang nakikita n’yo sa screen ganoon din kami off-screen,” Cantiveros said.
(Our secret is that we don’t hide anything. We don’t have secrets because what you see on screen is how we also are off-screen.)
Meanwhile, as the movie depicts three friends whose souls get swapped with each other, Cantiveros, in one scene, had to play Estrada’s character, something she had difficulty doing.
“Kung hirap sila sa akin, ako ang pinakahirap dahil mahirap maging maganda. Ako talaga, hindi ko kaya maging maganda. Sobrang pagkahirap maging Karla Estrada pero abangan nila sa huli dahil may twist iyan,” she said.
(If they find it hard to play my character, I had the most difficulty because it is hard to play someone beautiful. Me, really, I can’t play beautiful. It is very difficult to be Karla Estrada, but wait for the end because it has a twist.)
When asked who she would want to change personalities with, Cantiveros, without batting an eyelash, answered that she wants to have the personality of Daniel Padilla’s girlfriend, actress Kathryn Bernardo.
“Wala na akong ibang hihilingin, Kathryn Bernardo. Agad-agad, walang hesitation dahil siyempre Daniel Padilla. Tapos pupunta ako sa kanila, ‘tita Karla,’” she joked at Estrada who is Padilla’s mom.
(I will not wish for anything else, Kathryn Bernardo. Immediately, without hesitation, because of course of Daniel Padilla. Then I will go to their place (and call out,) “Tita Karla!”)
Doing the movie despite the lock-in set-up has also been manageable for Cantiveros, who also shared how Estrada was very ecstatic when she learned about the offer for the three of them.
“Noong in-offer sa amin, sabi ni momshie Karla, ‘Alam mo ‘yun, kapag tumanda tayo,’ yung meron tayong (masasabi na) ‘Hoy, panoorin natin ‘yung movie natin.’ Tapos tawanan na lang kami,” she said.
(When it was offered to us, momshie Karla said, “You know, when we get old, we can say, “Hey, let’s watch our movie together.” And we will all just laugh.)
“‘Yung mga friends merong picture frame, kami, meron kaming movie. So, para sa friendship namin, the best ito na ibinigay ni Lord,” she added.
(Some friends have picture frames. We? We have a movie. So, for our friendship, this is the best that God has given us.)
“Momshies! Ang Soul Mo’y Akin” will stream on May 28 in streaming platforms KTX.ph, iWant TFC, TFC IPTV, Sky Cable PPV and Cignal PPV. JB
