Being friends with Karla Estrada and Melai Cantiveros for more than five years now, Jolina Magdangal shared that she has learned the value of respect through their relationship.
Magdangal talked about her friendship with the said actresses and how it has endured through time, during the online press conference for their movie “Momshies: Ang Soul Mo’y Akin,” last Saturday, May 8.
“Kasi parang sinasabi nila palagi ang magkakaibigan dahil super close na kayo, dapat pare-pareho kayo. Ang napulot ko sa friendship namin, yes, pare-pareho kaming nanay, pare-pareho kaming babae, pare-pareho kaming in love at pare-pareho kaming kontento sa buhay pero dapat nating intindihin na dito lumalabas ‘yung respeto dahil magkakaiba pa rin tayo,” Magdangal said.
(People often say that if you are all friends, you all should be the same. What I learned from our friendship is yes, we are all mothers, women, in love and content in life. But we have to understand that this is where respect is shown, because we’re all still different from one another.)
Incidentally, their movie shows three friends whose souls get swapped with each other. Magdangal had to play the character of Cantiveros, something she had difficulty doing.
“Mahirap talaga ‘yung kay momshie Mels. Ang hirap talaga. Sumakit ang ulo ko. Every time na patapos na ang araw sumakit ang leeg ko. Malikot talaga siyang tao,” she said.
(It’s so hard to play momshie Mels. It’s really very hard. I had a headache. Every time the day ends my neck hurt. She is such a restless person.)
As a strategy, she would ask Cantiveros to do some of the scenes for her while she observes her friend’s mannerisms.
“Minsan may mga eksena na papasabi ko muna kay momshie Mels para makita ko muna kung paano niya talaga sasabhin at saka ko gagawin,” Magdangal shared.
(Sometimes there are scenes which I will ask Mels to deliver so I will see how she does it, then I will do it.)
There was also one scene were Magdangal got confused because she was acting with Jason Francisco, who happens to be the husband of Cantiveros.
“Nalilito na ako. Ano na talaga, Bisaya ba ako o Batangueno? Hindi ko alam. Nalito na ako sa sarili ko. Hindi ko na kilala ang sarili ko noong time na ‘yon,” she said in jest.
(I got confused. What is it, really? Am I Visayan or Batangueno? I don’t know. I was so confused. I didn’t know myself anymore.)
“Momshies! Ang Soul Mo’y Akin” will stream on May 28 via KTX.ph, iWant TFC, TFC IPTV, Sky Cable PPV and Cignal PPV. JB
