Having appeared in the Boys’ Love series “In Between,” young actor Renshi De Guzman is not at all afraid to do similar projects or to be identified with a gay image.

De Guzman, who also appeared in the indie film “Bakwit Boys” and in the iWantTFC series “La Vida Lena” where he played Rambo, is also happy that he is included in the third batch of Squad Plus, launched on May 3.

“Masaya po ako noong una dahil three years akong nasa indie. Magkakaroon po ako ng mainstream na project so masaya po ako and at the same time ay kinakabahan dahil hindi ko alam kung kaya ko ba talaga or what,” said the actor who also plays the role of Hans in the TV series “Huwag Kang Mangamba.”

(I am happy because I was into indie for three years. I now have mainstream projects so I am happy and at the same time nervous, because I don’t know if I can really do it or what.)

Meanwhile, De Guzman admitted he initially had second thoughts about accepting a BL project, for fear that he might get typecast. But later, he realized that working on a project is more important than building an image.

“Tinanggap ko siya kasi gusto ko siyang gawin. Tapos, habang tumatagal ay na-realize ko na okay lang kahit sabihin man nila na gay ako o bi ako, okay lang sa akin. Kasi wala naman mali kung ganoon ka, eh. Walang mali kung gay or bisexual ka. Hangga’t wala kang tinatapakang tao, okay lang ‘yun, go lang,” he said.

(I accepted it because I wanted to do it. Then, after a while, I realized that it is OK even if they call me gay or bi, it’s OK with me. It is because there is nothing wrong if you are. There’s nothing wrong in being gay or bisexual. For as long as you are not stepping on someone, it’s OK, go on.)

For De Guzman, what matters is that he knows himself better than anyone else. He is also still open to do other BL projects.

“Open naman po ako sa kahit na anong role as long as napagkasunduan po ng management, okay po sa akin ‘yun. May tiwala naman po ako sa management, so go,” he said.

(I am open to any role as long as management approves it, it’s OK with me. I trust [my managers], so go.)

De Guzman is currently taking acting and personality development trainings. He is also happy to have learned a lot during tapings by watching fellow artists act and how they deliver lines..

Also in the third batch of Squad Plus are Raven Rigor, Margaux Montana, Angelica Lao, Keann Johnson and Danica Ontengco. JB
