While growing up, Danica Sotto-Pringis didn’t exactly appreciate the way she was disciplined by her mom, veteran actress Dina Bonnevie. But now that she’s a mom herself, she has realized that her mother’s ways were all for her own good.
Sotto spoke about her mom in her Instagram page on Friday, May 21, where she shared a photo of herself and Bonnevie. Sotto also expressed how she misses her mom who is right now in a taping lock-in bubble for a new teleserye.
“Strong, smart and beautiful. That’s our Mama,” Sotto described her mom.
She recalled the times when they “would often have misunderstandings” because as a teenager, she didn’t like her mom’s “rules and didn’t understand her way of discipline.”
“Feeling ko she was too strict. Sabi ko, old school na yan,” she recalled. (I felt she was too strict. I said, “That’s old school.”)
But later, Sotto learned that her mom’s “pieces of advice” would eventually be her “guide.”
“I’m thankful because she has taught us how to be strong. Of course she’s not a perfect Mom, she also has her shortcomings but she did her best in raising us. When I feel challenged [in] parenting, [in] business at iba pa (and in other matters), I can actually hear her voice in my head,” she said. “Pinapalakas ang loob ko.” (It gives me courage.)
Sotto is now simply happy “to apply everything” that Bonnevie taught her.
“’Yung disiplina ng isang ina or magulang ay para sa ating mga anak yun,” she said. (The discipline imposed by a mother or parent is for us children.) JB
