Celebrity mom and vlogger Rica Peralejo probed her son Philip about what makes the biblical story of Samson interesting, and in the process, learned something from him.

Peralejo spoke about the story of Samson on her Instagram page, May 28, showing a booklet where her son’s message was written.

“After reading about Samson yesterday, I asked Philip what it was that he found interesting about the story and he said, ‘Why would he do exactly what he is not supposed to do?’” Peralejo shared.

Peralejo told her son that it could be because of the “surrounding climate of his time that made him do as he pleased, since that was what everyone was doing anyway, and there were no laws at the time.” But her son gave another answer which amazed her: “Maybe it was because he was strong. And he felt confident enough to do whatever he wanted.”

To this, Peralejo agreed, saying, “He did seem to be ego-tripping with his fancy riddles! Maybe it was because he felt proud to be stronger than the rest and needed to make that clear for his own good feelings.”

As their discussion went further, Peralejo’s son, “succinctly summarized” the valuable lesson he learned from the story: “Don’t think you are better even when you are strong.”

“Wow. What a lesson from Samson’s life,” she later noted. “That pride can really get the best of people, respecting no one, not even those as anointed and divinely strong like him.”

Peralejo, who has authored a weekly devotional “Better Than Jewels,” is a mother of two and married to a Christian pastor. JB
