What you missed at Herbal Essences’ exclusive tour of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

Plants have always been an important ingredient in taking care of our hair. Even with the advanced developments in hair treatments and hair styling, we know that when it comes to having healthy hair, au naturelle is the best way to go.

This has been at the core of Herbal Essences’ brand promise with its development of the bio:renew collection—to make hair care as natural as possible for healthy and great-looking hair. That’s not to say Herbal Essences doesn’t use science—far from it. Its current partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew), one of the world’s leading authorities on botanical science, has paved the way for Herbal Essences to use innovations in science to harness the power of plants and use it in hair product formulation.

Royal Botanic Gardens

Herbal Essences recently hosted an exclusive virtual tour of RBG Kew where media guests and friends were treated to an exhibition of a wide range of flora in what is considered one of the most biodiverse places on earth.

Aside from the virtual tour, Herbal Essences also launched the new packaging of the bio:renew collection, which is made of 25% recycled plastic. The Kew Endorsement is prominently placed on the new pack alongside clear 0% and natural claims. The layman’s description of the ingredients also listed in every bottle of bio:renew shampoo and conditioner reflects how important it is for Herbal Essences to show exactly what goes into its products.

The commitment to the brand promise is what makes Herbal Essences a truly unique international hair care brand, and to be the first to partner with RBG Kew has been a collaboration mutually beneficial for both.

“We are excited to be working with Herbal Essences bio:renew to unleash the power of plant science and to harness the benefits that plants have to offer,” says Sandra Botterell, Director of Marketing and Commercial Enterprise at RBG Kew.

In the virtual tour, we also got to see RBG Kew’s Temperate House, which is the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse that holds about 1,500 species of plants from the world over. Professor Monique Simmons OBE, Deputy Director of Science and Director of the Commercial Innovation Unit at RBG Kew, explains that among the more than 368,000 plant species in the world, about 1,000 of those are used in the beauty industry.

“This partnership really brings together Kew’s botanical expertise with Herbal Essences’ hair product formulation science, enabling the discovery of new uses of botanical extracts and the development of products with proven performance using high quality botanical ingredients,” shares Phil Marchant, Vice President of Procter & Gamble’s Scientific Communications and Responsible Beauty.

Hair care with the Bloom Squad

The virtual event also brought together the country’s Herbal Essences Bloom Squad, composed of celebrities Andi Eigenmann, Juliana Gomez, Frankie Pangilinan, and Leila Alcasid. During the event, they shared their thoughts on how the bio:renew collection has changed the way they take care of their hair.

“During my showbiz days, my hair was always exposed to treatment and constant hairstyling. But now, I have switched to a more conscious life and I am now more mindful in the products I use. Since I used Herbal Essences two years ago, I saw how it just works really well with my hair and how it looks more alive,” shared Andi.

Juliana shares the same sentiments: “I live a very active lifestyle and like Andi, I really like being under the sun and enjoy the outdoors a lot, which means I have really dry hair because of too much sun exposure. But after switching to Herbal Essences, my hair went from dull and dry to super moisturized and nourished.”

Frankie talked about how Herbal Essences helped her become more confident with her hair. “My hair used to be super frizzy and dull and because of that, I never had the confidence to grow out my hair longer than shoulder length, but thankfully, because of Herbal Essences, I saw how my hair is now super soft and my hair has never been this long in over a decade.”

Meanwhile, for Leila, who has experienced oily hair after moving to the Philippines from Australia, mentioned that it was important for her to have hair products that can clean her hair without stripping off its natural oils. “Since I’ve been using the White Strawberry and Sweet Mint variant of Herbal Essences bio:renew, which is really meant for cleaning the hair, it’s been really good for me.”

The Herbal Essences bio:renew collection of shampoo and conditioner comes in five variants: Argan Oil of Morocco, Coconut Milk, Golden Moringa Oil, White Strawberry and Sweet Mint, and Blue Ginger and Micellar.
