TV host Gretchen Ho feels extremely proud of the bike community which has sprouted in Quezon City. Ho spoke about it during the recent Bike For Livelihood event in the city, as per her Instagram post yesterday, July 4.
“Did you know? Over the pandemic, Quezon City gained over 93 [kilometers] in bike lanes, 90 newly-hired bike patrollers under the ‘Green Transport Office,’ and has been working with cycling advocates like Bikers United Movement (the one who setup the bike community pantry in Commonwealth) to improve bike initiatives in the city, and that’s just phase 1,” she said.
She said that witnessing the presence of such biking community used to be just a dream for her, which brings her joy now that it has become a reality.
“Just go around Commonwealth [and] the University Areas, you’ll see. Hope we can continue on,” she said.
Ho reported that tycoon Manny Pangilinan and the MVP Group Foundations (First Pacific, Metro Pacific, PLDT-Smart, One Meralco, Maynilad) have expressed their generosity by donating “about 60 bicycles, 15 @livesmart phones [and] 15 pocket [Wi-Fis] to those affected by the pandemic in QC, to provide more livelihood opportunities.”
She then thanked local officials for helping them identify deserving recipients by going to different baranggays.
“Great job also to @mayorjoybelmonte @giansotto for pushing initiatives in the city,” she cited, pointing out that “when public sector + private sector + NGOs work together towards common goals, we can achieve much.”
Ho has been giving assistance to citizens through her “Donate A Bike, Save A Job” project, where she facilitates the donation of bikes to people who need them to get to their jobs, amid the transportation crisis brought about by the pandemic. JB
