For broadcaster Bernadette Sembrano-Aguinaldo, now is the time to clean up with the weather finally being good after days of heavy rains.
Aguinaldo shared some of her thoughts while doing her cleaning chores, as seen on her Instagram page today, July 26, where she also shared a photo of herself with a mop to clean up her balcony.
“Time to clean the balcony while it’s wet, not when the dirt has settled. Mas mahirap magtanggal ng PUTIK (It’s much harder to get rid of the mud),” she said.
Aguinaldo said she learned about this bit of practical wisdom when she did coverages for Sagip Kapamilya, when she visited flooded areas, including those submerged in above-the-head waters.
“Kapag naging putik na, kailangan mo naman maghanap ng tubig, o di kaya humingi ng saklolo sa BUMBERO!!! Huwag hintaying matuyo ang putik ! Ang BIGAT ng trabaho,” she said. (When it turns to mud, you need to find water, or ask help from firefighters. Do not wait for the mud to dry up. It will be a hard job.)
But that is not the case when you clean an area where there is still water, for you will “simply [be] redirecting the flow of the murky water to where you want it to go then you clean up easier, even CLEANER before the storm came,” she explained.
“This is why we STRIVE not to let the negative feelings of tampo, anger, hatred, or jealousy build up in our hearts,” she said next, connecting her experience with how resentment builds up. “That’s why we STRIVE to not to give in to sadness, self pity, worry.”
She advises everyone to “clean up, pagpag (shake off), go roll with the punches and keep going.” JB
