Working with a younger generation of actors has made veteran actress Teresa Loyzaga realize she’s got a greater responsibility as an artist., a
Loyzaga was asked what she learned from working with younger actors during the online press conference for “Marry Me, Marry You” last Sept 2. She plays wife to Edu Manzano, and mother to Paulo Avelino and Kean Johnson, in the soap opera which is showing via the iWantTFC app, the Kapamilya online platforms, A2Z and TV5 channels, and The Filipino Channel for those outside the country.
“Actually, you taught me a sense of responsibility because everything I do, everything I say, everything I tell you, you pick up from,” she said, addressing them.
With that came the actress’ realization that she needs to make sure she does not set a bad example to her younger costars.
“So, I’d better be sure that I am doing everything right. And if I do anything wrong, I’d tell you not to do that. It’s a great responsibility on my shoulders as an actor, as a person, as an older person,” she explained.
Loyzaga also recognizes that this responsibility extends outside the set, because she is watched by younger audiences as well.
“Hindi lang pala ito pag-aartista, pagdadrama, pagtataray [na] nangyayari kapag gumaganap ka ng isang karakter sa isang teleserye o sa isang pelikula dahil ang mga kabataan ay nanonood. Ang mga future actors, great actors natin ay pinanonood tayo. So, napakalaking responsibilidad,” she stressed.
(This is not just acting, or doing drama, or being mean when you’re playing a character in a teleserye or film, because the youth are watching. Our future actors, our great actors watch us. So it’s a huge responsibility.)
With that, Loyzaga is grateful because it keeps her on her toes.
“Salamat na ipinaalala ninyo iyon sa akin dahil kailangan talaga ay mag-concentrate ako at lalo ko pang paghusayan ang ginagawa ko,” she said. (Thank you for reminding me [about this] because I really need to concentrate and be better with what I am doing.) JB
