Tony Labrusca sees cancel culture as toxic and unhealthy, founded on hate

Actor Tony Labrusca does not believe in the concept of cancel culture and refuses to support it, as it is to him a “toxic” and “unhealthy” exercise.

“We’re all human, eh. Even if I see somebody in showbiz who might be acting a little problematic, it is not in my position to be cancelling this person,” Labrusca said during the online press conference last Aug. 26 for the iWant series “Click, Like, Share.”

Labrusca plays Homer, a tech-savvy guy who ruins the lives of other people in the “Altered” episode of “Click, Like, Share,” which has streamed on iWantTFC and aired on the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live and A2Z channel 11.

“The idea of cancel culture, for me, with my core values, is so toxic. It’s based [on] hate. I don’t support that movement. I don’t think it is appropriate” he explained.

Labrusca thinks there are other ways to deal with, for example, an influencer who makes a mistake.

“I just wouldn’t support that person anymore. I wouldn’t buy any of their products. I wouldn’t support their music. I wouldn’t go out of my way to support anything that they’re selling,” he said.

But he would not make public declarations of hate on that person.

“I just don’t think that’s right and I think by me doing that is adding to the problem,” he said.

Although social media can be toxic, Labrusca still enjoys being part of it. He actually loves posting on Instagram, it being his favorite platform.

“I like to use it as a way to share myself, how I want to be seen. It allows me that little bit of power to present myself the way I want to be seen to have creativity,” he explained. “Just a little like that makes me really happy. That’s what I like about social media.” JB
