MAKATI CITY, Philippines — Aside from the main crown, the 2021 Miss Universe Philippines pageant will bestow two more titles during its coronation ceremonies to be streamed on September 30 from the Hennan Resort Alona Beach in Bohol.
The Miss Universe Philippines (MUPH) organization said on its social media accounts that a Miss Universe Philippines Tourism and a Miss Universe Philippines Charity will also be proclaimed along with the Miss Universe Philippines titleholder and two runners up.
The organization clarified, however, that the two additional titles do not come with international assignments. “The promotion of tourism and involvement in charity are two pillars that [MUPH] champion. By having individual queens focused on these, we can further our cause,” said the social media post.
It added: “Should the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 be unable to fulfill her obligations, the MUPH Tourism will take over.”
The 2021 Miss Universe Philippines pageant started with the selection of 100 delegates in July. A series of virtual competitions further trimmed the roster to 75, then 50.
After the round of interviews with the remaining 50 delegates, the organization chose 30 ladies called to participate in the physical stage of the pageant. But after two delegates bowed out because of health reasons, the final pool of delegates whittled down to 28.
The final 28 then went inside the MUPH bubble in Pampanga for the preliminary competitions and other activities, in anticipation of a Sept. 25 coronation. But pandemic restrictions prevented the organization from staging the final competition as planned.
MUPH secured the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Covid-19 to hold the final contest in Bohol.
Returning as host for the coronation show is KC Montero. Singers Sam Concepcion and Michael Pangilinan are set to perform.
Reigning queen Rabiya Mateo, who sustained the Philippines’ inclusion in the Miss Universe pageant’s semifinals for the 11th straight year, will relinquish her crown to her successor.
The new winner will represent the Philippines in the 70th edition of the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Israel in December.
The 2021 Miss Universe Philippines coronation show will be streamed via ktx.ph on September 30 at 7 p.m. Other ABS-CBN digital platforms—iWantTFC, ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube Channel, and TFC IPTV—will also carry the program.
A delayed telecast on GMA will also show exclusive interviews with the judges and the new queen. It will air on October 3 at 9 a.m.
