Get in loser, we’re hopping on a time machine. Thanks to Shanne Dandan, we’re opening October with the most ambitious but well-deserved decision yet: revisiting our memories of precious karaoke nights.
Today, Oct. 1, the singer-songwriter (and Scout’s horror movie girl) dropped her newest single “Hanggang Sa Langit.” Composed by Zild Benitez and co-produced by Shanne and Zild, this song is sprinkled with hyper-romantic declarations and banters that tread between sarcasm (“Huwag kang lumapit / Nasa impyerno na ako / Kamay ay mainit, dito mo mahahawakan ‘to) and straightforwardness (“Kung maaari, hawakan mo ang aking labi / Nang matapos na ang pangangamba”). As it progresses, Shanne nails both her role-playing chops and dreamy vocal prowess as she vividly weaves what heaven must really sound like.
Also a nod to the 1970s Manila sound, “Hanggang Sa Langit” ticks off every unofficial karaoke veteran’s checklist. It’s vulnerable, slow dance-y, and the type to get stuck in your head because of its authenticity. The song’s ingredients are already a case in point. “According to Shanne, this is the first time she recorded some scream[s] and her boyfriend, Zild Benitez of IV of Spades also included the takes where she laughed in the middle of singing,” Viva Records said.
With its gentle pace and intimate vocals, “Hanggang sa Langit” also acts like the 9 p.m. to her 2019 song “Umaga’s” 9 a.m., as the former offers the latter some rest and resolution.
