Beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach is throwing her support to her boyfriend, businessman Jeremy Jauncey, on his call for people to lessen their carbon footprint when traveling.
Wurtzbach spoke about Jauncey’s advocacy in her Instagram page today, Oct. 10, where she shared photos with him while in Istanbul, Turkey.
“Ganda ng view dito (The view here is beautiful). Some outtakes from our recent trip and Collab post with @jeremyjauncey where we share how we can lessen our carbon footprint when we travel,” said the former Miss Universe.
“Whenever Pia and I travel, we think of the carbon footprint we leave and how we impact the environment,” Jauncy meanwhile said on his Instagram page on Oct. 8. “There is a carbon footprint to almost every part of the travel supply chain and whilst the industry still has a long way to go to provide a more sustainable future… we as consumers don’t have to wait.”
To offset the impact of their travel, they report to Gold Standard (@goldstandard4globalgoals).
“We tell them where we’ve travelled to and from, how long we stay in a destination, the modes of transportation that we use and they help us find impactful programs around the world to offset our [carbon dioxide] emissions,” he said.
Jauncy shared that they have supported a program in Kenya which provides families with domestic biodigesters.
“Biodigesters provide a way for households with livestock to reduce their dependence on polluting firewood and expensive fossil fuels. Cooking on biogas is fast and smokeless, improving family health, especially among women and children,” he explained.
“Leftover slurry from the biogas process is an excellent organic fertilizer that improves crop yields – and having more vegetables to sell, provides families with extra income,” Jauncy added.
The entrepreneur believes that there are many ways to lesson one’s impact on the environment, so it is important for individuals to consider the various aspects of their travels.
“To start, think of approximately how many kilometers/miles you travel by car, bus, train and plane; how you consume energy at home; how much you spend shopping; the composition of your diet, etc.” he said.
Jauncy is encouraging his social media followers to comment and share about how one can do sustainable actions at home and during travel. JB
